New things about that I have learned in Korea

Almost every Korean universities host spring festivals; and KAIST also hosted their own festival on this past Monday through Wednesday. It was first time for me to attend University Spring Festival in Korea and the thing that made me excited was that J.Rabbit which is one of my favorite bands was coming to KAIST as a guest singer. On the second night of the festival, when J.Rabbit performed, I and other lab member, Hyoin prepared all the stuffs to get their signatures and took pictures with them. Fortunately we found their car on the way to where the performance was held and followed the car to the parking lot. Since they visited KAIST campus for first time we were able to escort them to the bathroom and even to the stage. During that time Hyoin and I took several pictures with them and got to talk with them. Even if they were a famous band in Korea they were really friendly. Below are the pictures of us with J.Rabbit before the performance. Overall the festival was successfully ended up except that it was rainy outside on third night of the festival. I would like to plan to attend other universities’ spring festivals around DaeJeon city as well.

On this past weekend I went down to my hometown to celebrate my grandfather’s 80th birthday party. It had been more than 10 years to gather all my relatives on mother’s side. I was so glad to meet my parents and sisters. It was first time to meet my sisters since I came back to Korea. Even if I met them after two years since I left Korea we didn’t feel any awkwardness but warmth. I guess this is what fraternal love is.

    Project Status

For last few weeks, I have been tried to build up a device increasing two digits numbers with a code in real time and an encoder wheel by using PIC microchip. On this week, both of the tasks were successfully implemented. Below is the link to the video clips showing that the seven segment display increases the numbers with two methods described above. To complete these tasks, I studied about the characteristics of PIC’s individual pins and the code structures such as the information of the variables in header file and their relationship with the main code. On next week, I would like to build up a DC motor implemented by the encoder wheel; therefore the motor speeds up or rotate clockwise in certain angle by the augmented electrical signal created by the encoder wheel and vice versa.

    About myself

I used to play tennis for a school when I went to the middle school in Korea and the high school in America. Some of the lab members were interested in playing tennis and they want me to give them a tennis lesson before every dinner time. I thought that it would be a great opportunity to get along with lab members and also improve my ability to teach others as well as my tennis skill. Their tennis skill was better than I thought so we could do a rally for the entire lesson time after few minutes to correct their fore-hand posture.
