New things about that I have learned in Korea

Like the popularity of football in U.S. soccer and baseball are really popular in Korea. During the spring and summer season the Korean Baseball League (KBL) catches the baseball fan’s attention. Especially all the Korean college students are obsessed with KBL therefore someone made a quote for those college fans, which is “If you watch the KBL, give up your GPA for the term.” There are total eight teams competing in the league. All the teams compete in the name of their local area. Since I am from Jeon La Nam Do which is one of the districts in Korea, my favorite baseball team is KIA tigers. I used to go watch their baseball match in the stadium when I was young. My dad used to be a referee in the Korean High School Baseball League and so he taught me the rules and the positions of baseball. Han Hwa is one of the KBL teams, playing for Daejeon City. That’s why all the KAIST students including the Hubo lab members are crazy fans of Han Hwa. I have been sort of overwhelmed by the Han Hwa fans and always talking about their baseball matches. Like American sports fans, Korean people tend to analyze each player and talk about their plays in the games.

    Project Status

For this week, Brittany and I were assigned the tasks to assembly a Hubo’s finger. Hyun Min showed us how to assembly the finger before we start to practice. It was quite hard to follow the steps for the first time we tried. However after a few hours of practice we found some know-hows and could assembly the fingers quite easily. Since the finger motors were not delivered till this past Friday we will assembly fingers without a motor and put all the parts together next week.

    About myself

It has been about five years to live away from my parents. I get sometimes depressed and am lost in memories of my childhood when I think of my family. While staying in Korea I would try to give a call to my parents as often as I can. Every time I came back to Korea I realized that they were getting old by looking at their changed appearance such as wearing glasses and many wrinkles on their foreheads. On this weekend I visited my hometown and spend time with my parents. I canceled every appointment with my friends and spend all my weekend with them. We went to many famous restaurants and talked about the old stories. It reminded me of the old memories and how much my parents loved me. I would like to try to be a good son and never make them disappointed of me.
